Cisco’s New CCNA Concentrations

Global Knowledge, Europe's leading independent training company welcomes the introduction of three new entry level technology–based CCNA concentrations which are designed to build upon Cisco’s most popular career certification CCNA. These new certifications are seen as an ideal stepping stone for those delegates not able to make the full commitment that a professional level certification requires.

While Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) remains the certification of choice for individuals who want to demonstrate their solid foundation in core routing and switching skills, the new CCNA Wireless, CCNA Voice and CCNA Security certifications build on the core CCNA skills and provide a clear path for individuals wishing to specialize in a job role within the wireless, security or voice technologies.

These three new CCNA concentrations will also serve as prerequisites for Cisco professional level certifications including CCVP and CCSP.

Cisco® CCNA® Security meets the needs of IT professionals who are responsible for network security. It confirms an individual’s skills for job roles such as network security specialists, security administrators, and network security support engineers.

The IINS course focuses on the necessity of a comprehensive security policy and how it affects the posture of the network.  Delegates who attain this new certification will be able to perform basic tasks involved in securing a small branch office network using Cisco IOS security features available through web-based GUI’S on the Cisco routers and Switches.

CCNA Voice

Cisco® CCNA® voice validates the knowledge and skills needed to implement a Cisco VoIP networks. Delegates will gain an understanding of traditional IP PBX and IP Telephony systems, and will be exposed to the Cisco Unified Communications architecture and design covering technologies such as mobility, presence and Telepresence applications. This course focuses the implementation of Cisco Unified Communications 500 Series for small businesses, Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express and Cisco Unity Express.

CCNA Wireless  

Cisco® CCNA® Wireless certification recognizes and validates the professionals who support wireless LANs and focuses on providing them with the information and practice activities to prepare them for configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting basic tasks of a Cisco WLAN in small to medium-sized business (SMB) and enterprise networks.

Impact on Professional and Specialized Certifications

CCNA Security and CCSP

• IINS is now a prerequisite for CCSP
• SND and HIPS will go EOL on the 17^th of November 2008
• SNPA will go EOL on the 16^th of Jan 2009
• CCSP will now consist of 3 Core courses plus one elective

CCNA Security and Security Specializations

* Have until the 17/11/08 to take SND and achieve specialization

CCNA Voice and CCVP

To accommodate candidates who may already have started preparation for a CCVP certification, CCNA will be accepted as the pre-re in place of CCNA Voice for one year until the 23rd of June 2009.

From then on CCNA Voice will be the only accepted pre-req for CCVP

CCNA Wireless

At present this will have no impact on the current Wireless Specializations
