This specialization level course provides participants with hands-on experience using the EMC’s Local Replication tools in a z/OS environment. This course will provide thorough knowledge of ResourcePak Base, ResourcePak Extended, TimeFinder/Mirror, TimeFinder/Mirror Mainframe Snap Facility, and TimeFinder/Mirror Utility. Key concepts of business continuity and practical application use of these products will be addressed.

Knowledge/Skills

To understand the content and successfully complete this course, a student must have a suitable knowledgebase/skill set. The student must have an understanding of:

  • Understanding of the z/OS operating environment; ability to utilize TSO, SDSF, and ISPF while performing online hands-on labs
  • Symmetrix architecture, concepts and theory of operations
  • TimeFinder architecture, concepts and theory of operations

    This course is intended for any person who will:

    • Manage and administrate Symmetrix-based local data replication using the TimeFinder suite of products in z/OS environments.
    • Architect and position mainframe business continuity customer solutions using TimeFinder applications.

    Upon successful completion of this course, participants should be able to:

    • Describe and demonstrate the benefits, architecture and management of the ResourcePak Base Symmetrix Control Facility in z/OS environments
    • Describe and demonstrate TimeFinder management operations, including TimeFinder/Mirror, TimeFinder Snap Facility and TimeFinder Utility. Including multiple BCV and concurrent BCV functions.
    • Describe the architecture and operations of Resource Pak Extended.
    • Explain important host considerations for successful implementations of local replication solutions such as TimeFinder in z/OS environments
    • Identify key EMC business continuity solutions services and tools.

    Assessments validate that you have learned the knowledge or skills presented during a learning experience. This course includes hands-on lab exercises to validate learning throughout the course as well as end-of-module questions for student to use to assess their knowledge and understanding
